Another Year

Pick up the camera

Pick up the phone

Quick snap the moment

And then we move on.

Run to the car

Get your bag and your shoes

Race to the school gate

The prize is you lose

Another year.

God has made the sun

Stand still in the sky

Should I ask Him?

Fulfil this cry?

Suspend this moment –

Let us stay here

Enjoying small victories

No transitions; no fear.

But Joshua

Did not give them rest.

Nor is Pre-primary

The Promised Land.

Or Year One or Year Two

University; marriage.

Only in you, God

And my times are in your hands.

And his times.

So.

Out of the car

In through the door

A gift for your teacher

Who gave so much more.

An icecream to savour

Bittersweet flavour.

Another year done,

The Promised Land still to come.
